‘Songs From the Inside Vol II’ Album a Success

The final episode of ‘Songs from the Inside’ Series II aired last Friday night on Maori Television, finally revealing in full the heartfelt and honest songs recorded by the students.

Songs From the Inside Vol II

The album for the series was released on the same day and within 24 hours of the episode going to air, the album rocketed to #4 on the iTunes singer/songwriter category charts. Within the last week, the album has progressed even further and sat at #2 as of last Wednesday. The album from the first series also encountered a boost and peaked at #11 on the singer/songwriter charts. Both albums were also within the top 20 of the main charts.

We’d like to thank everyone who contributed to the making of the album. Of course, our wonderful mentors Annie Crummer, Anika Moa, Don McGlashan and Laughton Kora. The brilliant songs composed by the students could not have been done without their support.

Also many thanks to the unsung heroes who worked hard to produce the album. Neil Baldock, Jason Huss, Ben Knapp, Jordan Stone and Mike Gibson who were responsible for the recording and mixing. Many thanks also to our guest musicians, Aaron Tokona, Ashley Brown, Billy Middleton, Chris O’Connor, Godfrey De Grut, Mike Hall, the Free Wesleyan Church of North Shore Congregation and Tama Wapara. Also Ross Brown, Joss Wheeler and Cushla Aston who were responsible for the photography and publicity for the album.

Most of all, we’d like to thank the fans who have been supportive of our cause the whole way. Your encouragement is inspiring to us, and we’ll certainly be working our hardest to bring more content to you.

Finally, we would like to note that none of the prisoners received any financial benefits from the sale of the CD. Instead, they each donated their share of profits to nominated charities. We thank them for their kindness and are overwhelmed by their gratitude.
